Unique First Dance Songs

Choosing your first dance song isn’t always easy...

Some couples have a favorite song that is perfect for their first dance. Mike and I definitely didn’t. There were songs that he liked that I didn’t and I liked that he didn’t. It took months and months for us to find a song that adequately expressed how we felt about each other. And then one day I heard it and I just knew. Mike and I listened to it together and just like that, we had our first dance song.

If you don’t want a main stream song as your first dance song, you’re not alone. That’s not what Mike and I were looking for either. That’s probably why it took so long. Every time I tried to search for unique or unconventional first dance songs, the lists were filled with pop songs or old school classics. Neither of those were our style.

You may have heard one of two of these songs but when you listen to them now, imagine dancing with your future husband. Read the lyrics as your listen to them. When you picture yourself in that setting, the words and the songs hit different.

So here is the list I WISH I had when we were trying to decide on a first dance song

Our first dance song was I am Yours by Andy Grammer. The words were everything we wanted them to be and more.

If you find a song on this list that doesn’t quite fit as your first dance song, still make a note of it. It may work well for the ceremony for the processional or recessional. I walked down the aisle to My Own by Trevor Hall. After said our “I Do’s”, Mike and I walked out to You Are The Best Thing by Ray LaMontagne.

So keep a running lists of the songs you like, they may play a part in a different area of your wedding!
